Day 4

Went to school and were treated like royalty. Day began with a skip dance demonstration with around 250 pupils - Kate was brilliant when she joined in. There were several other demonstrations: dance, musical instruments, cookery and we took part in English and art lessons. In the afternoon we went to the dragon tower and enjoyed the views across the whole of the city. At night we were taken to the 'best' and 'most expensive' restaurant (what we were told). It was like a hotel with four floors and private banquet rooms. We had to choose food to be cooked and were unsure when we saw all the live fish and unusual creatures we could have. Over dinner we had to take part in LOTS of toasts - at least one every five minutes- we were very tired. We met our principles husband who is a very important person from the area and he offered to cook for miss hepworth at his home- this was apparently a huge compliment. We are glad to be back at the hotel now and are definitely ready for bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be as exciting when we see the Siberian tigers.

  1. To the UK Diplomatic Mission to China
Every time I read the blog I enter a new stage of disbelief. I don't think that I will ever be able to understand the experiences you are all having or the impact of your visit. I am so very proud of you all.. I am terrified of "you pick it - we kill it restaurants" I work to a rule of never eating anything that is looking back at me.
I can't wait to see photos of Kate skipping with the school children. I know it is an experience that will stay with her all of her life.
if you want to extend your trip I can always fly out to join you - always an option!
    missing you loads love Dad

  2. Wow! Another exciting day and am so glad that the school were so welcoming. Did you learn to speak Chinese and could you understand the children? You all seem to be eating all the time..... Hope you are enjoying the food.
I am so glad that Kate was amazing at skipping .... They asked me to join the skipping when I was there and I was absolutely rubbish at it! Did Miss Hepworth manage to join the skipping? Hope you enjoy tomorrow n school.

Love from Mrs Thompson and the Benedict Biscop team. Xx

  3. oh my goodness! I'm so proud of you, all I could think about all day was your visit to your Chinese school. It sounds amazing but very tiring I hope you can keep up the pace. All of our friends and family are asking how you are getting on, I think only you will be able to tell the real stories when you get back. We are all so proud of you. Miss you Mam x

  4. Hello PJ kate and Miss Hepworth,

Sounds like a hectic day. I bet it was lovely joining in the skipping Kate. PJ, I hope you are joining in lots of activities too, they sound like fun. The food seems to be getting more and more extravagant every time I hear about it. What did you decide to have PJ, I hope you didn't choose a poor creature that was there looking at you. I cant wait to hear what it was like in the school, it sounds so different to ours in England. I hope you made some new friends. Siberian tigers tomorrow, another fabulous experience. You guys are so lucky to see all these life changing things. I am so pleased you have had this amazing opportunity, it truly is life changing.

Over half way through your trip now PJ. Although I cant wait to have you back home, I don't want it to end for you. Missing you loads all our love Mam, Paul and Natalie x x x

PS - nana and grandad have been checking the blog all day. I will let them know it is on tomorrow as it is late now x x x love to you all. Stay safe x x x

  7. Hello all,
Private banqueting rooms eh, sounds right up my street, really jealous!! What did you choose for dinner then Paul? It may be an idea to write it all down in your journal!! The people there sound SO welcoming & kind, I bet you all feel very special!! The school at Harbin really does sound different to back home but very interesting at the same time!! Have you learnt any of the language during your short stay or learnt to write your name maybe?! It does look really difficult to pick up!!! I am looking forward to reading everything that you have written!!! Anyway, stay safe, enjoy the rest of your stay & I can't wait for Sunday!!! Missing you LOADS, all our love,
    Dad, Anona & Bump!!! XXX

  8. Hi everyone.
So glad to hear you are having a good time and that you're all safe. Private banqueting? - I could'nt think of anything better! Where do I sign up for the next trip? Hope Miss Hepworth is putting her language skills to good use - dont believe her when she tells you she can't dance or skip (or anything else for that matter) she's just shy! Make sure she joins in! ;)
    Stay safe and enjoy.
Lots of Love Miss B and Year 6 xxx
